This client was tired of looking at her front yard and wanted a modern refresh. We had helped a relative of hers with their landscape and were recommended for the job. After meeting with her to talk through her vision and goals, we agreed that a 3D design model was the right place to start — before committing to any layout.

Why We Were Chosen

Our team was chosen because we delivered a landscape design and plan that matched the modern, clean, low-maintenance front yard she had envisioned.

There was also a large tree that needed to come out, and that required a permit from the City of San Jose. The homeowner chose us because we could handle every part of the project ourselves — design, permitting, tree removal, driveway construction, and planting. She wanted a seamless experience with one company she could trust.

The Problem We Solved

The homeowner had been frustrated with her front yard for years and was looking for guidance on how to modernize it so that it was enjoyable to come home to.

When our team met with her, she felt confident that we clearly understood her goals and was comfortable placing the vision in our hands. We delivered a design she was happy with, then installed the new front yard landscape — and the finished result outdid her expectations.

What We Did

For this project we performed the following:

  • Custom modern 3D design and landscape plan
  • Tree removal permit submittal and arborist report
  • Tree and stump removal
  • Landscape demolition
  • New stamped and colored driveway installation
  • Poured-in-place paver step stones
  • Paver fence columns
  • Modern cedar horizontal fence
  • Drainage installation
  • Landscape irrigation installation
  • Plant purchase and installation
  • Fountain installation
  • Mulch purchase and installation
  • Artificial turf installation
  • LED landscape lighting installation — pathway lights and uplights

How We Did It

We started with the design. Modeling the front yard in 3D let the homeowner see the layout, the driveway, the fence line, and the planting from every angle before anyone committed to it — and adjust it while changes still cost nothing. The site plan then became the working document the crew built from.

The large tree came next, and that meant paperwork before power tools. We prepared the arborist report, submitted the removal permit to the City of San Jose, and waited for approval before touching it. Handling the permitting in-house meant the homeowner never had to manage a city process or coordinate a separate contractor around it.

With the tree and stump out and the old landscape demolished, we set drainage first. Water management goes in before the hardscape, because once a driveway is poured, the grade is permanent. From there we installed the new stamped and colored driveway, the poured-in-place paver step stones, the paver columns, and the modern cedar horizontal fence — the elements that give the front its clean, modern lines.

Irrigation went in ahead of the planting so every new plant had water from day one. Then came the plants, the artificial turf, the fountain, and mulch to hold moisture in the beds. LED pathway lights and uplights finished the job, so the landscape reads just as well in the evening as it does in daylight.

Throughout all of it, the homeowner stayed in the loop. We kept her informed of any changes or adjustments as they came up, and the project came in on budget with no surprises.

The Outcome

The outcome was a complete transformation. A home built and landscaped in the early 1980s now has a modernized landscape that is an attractive feature for the entire neighborhood.

It is better looking than the landscape it replaced and it will require less maintenance to keep that way. We completed the project on budget with no surprises, and the homeowner was involved throughout so she stayed informed of every change and adjustment along the way.
