When a Morgan Hill community began planning a large-scale landscape renovation around their office building, they turned to San Jose Tree Service & Landscaping. We had previously supported them with tree pruning and removal, and through that work, we earned their trust. That trust became the foundation for a much larger partnership.
After years of delays and uncertainty about how to approach such a significant project, the board finally decided to move forward with the renovation, and they invited us to bid for the work.
Why We Were Selected
The board interviewed four different landscape contractors. We were not the lowest or highest bid, but we were chosen based on our professionalism, communication, and ability to manage the project from start to finish.
The community had been hesitant to undertake a renovation of this scale. It had been more than a decade since they had made substantial changes to the landscape, and the thought of removing all the lawn around their office building was difficult to visualize.
To ease those concerns, we converted their existing 2D design into a 3D video model that helped the board and shareholders clearly see the vision for the new landscape. This extra step showed our attention to detail and gave them the confidence that their property was in the right hands.
The Problem We Solved
This project required careful coordination with Santa Clara County to meet strict rebate qualifications. The design needed to follow detailed drought-tolerant planting and irrigation standards. If even small elements were not executed properly, the community risked losing its rebate funds.
Our team took on the entire scope of work, ensuring that every requirement was met. We worked closely with Santa Clara County Water District staff to make sure the installation aligned with approved plans. Our ability to manage every detail allowed the board to relax, knowing the project would be completed on time and to standard.
Just as importantly, we were able to continue maintaining the property after the construction phase, creating a seamless experience from renovation to ongoing care.
What We Did
Our services for this project included:
- Complete commercial landscape construction for the office property
- Lawn removal as required by the rebate program
- Irrigation system design and installation, including timers and drip systems to support low-water plants
- Drought-tolerant plant and tree installation in accordance with rebate guidelines
- Tree removal and pruning for safety and site improvements
- Decomposed granite walkway installation for accessibility and design consistency
- Mulch installation to conserve moisture and enhance visual appeal
- Concrete installation for high-traffic areas
- Tree preservation, particularly for established trees that added value to the property
- Full landscape maintenance program following construction to ensure long-term success
Our team also provided a warranty on the work performed, which gave the board additional peace of mind.
The Outcome
The board was thrilled with the quality of the finished project and the ease of working with our team. What had once been a daunting task became a smooth, well-managed experience. The completed landscape not only met the visual and functional goals of the community, it also qualified for the Santa Clara County rebate, adding further value to the investment.
Following the success of the project, the board hired us to take over landscape and tree care for the entire community. Our relationship continues to grow as we help them maintain a safe, beautiful, and sustainable environment for residents and visitors.
