This Willow Glen project began with a simple fence repair, but it quickly became clear the landscape needed much more. During our initial site visit, the San Jose Tree Service & Landscaping team took the time to assess the overall health of the property, even though it wasn’t part of our original scope. What we discovered revealed serious underlying problems that previous contractors had overlooked.
Why We Were Called In
The homeowner had hired us to address a damaged fence, but while on-site, we noticed that several elements of the landscape weren’t performing well. A large tree in the front yard showed clear signs of root rot, the backyard plantings were struggling, and the irrigation system appeared to be failing.
Although other arborists, landscapers, and designers had been involved with the property over the years, no one had stepped back to look at the bigger picture. The result was a piecemeal landscape that was slowly declining without a clear plan to restore it.
We approached the homeowner with a detailed, holistic proposal that addressed the true issues at hand, starting with what was dying and working toward a healthy, functional yard she could rely on long-term.
The Problem We Solved
The homeowner was frustrated with recurring issues: plants that wouldn’t thrive, irrigation zones that never seemed to work right, and a beautiful tree that had started to decline without warning. What she needed wasn’t another short-term fix. She needed a team that could offer a complete solution, one that considered plant health, irrigation functionality, and long-term landscape care.
We provided exactly that: a plan to correct the irrigation, refresh the plantings, remove and replace the failing tree, and set up a maintenance program to ensure the landscape stayed healthy moving forward.
What We Did
Our work began with the most pressing issues and expanded into a full property refresh. Services included:
- Drip irrigation system repair, resolving the improper watering patterns that were causing plant stress.
- New lawn installation with gopher wire underneath to prevent ongoing rodent damage.
- Large tree removal in the front yard due to advanced root rot.
- Tree replacement with a species appropriate for the site’s soil, sun, and drainage conditions.
- Landscape lighting repair to restore functionality and enhance curb appeal and safety.
- Ongoing maintenance services, including routine care for plants, trees, turf, and irrigation systems.
Every element of the project was planned and executed with long-term health and simplicity in mind, so the client wouldn’t have to keep hiring new specialists for piecemeal work.
How We Did It
From the start, our team prioritized clear communication and transparency. We explained the issues we found, showed the evidence, and laid out a step-by-step plan for recovery. The client appreciated that we weren’t trying to upsell services she didn’t need, we were focused on bringing her property back to life and preventing future problems.
Because we manage both tree care and landscape construction in-house, we were able to address the full scope of needs without juggling multiple vendors or delaying progress. And with regular maintenance now in place, the client can relax knowing her landscape is in good hands.
The Outcome
Today, this Willow Glen property is thriving again. The lawn is healthy and rodent-free, the new tree is growing strong, and the plantings are finally being watered properly. Landscape lighting once again highlights key features of the yard and adds security after dark. We also developed a holistic landscape management plan to care for the property on a regular basis so she can have peace of mind that her yard will not deteriorate again but become what she always envisioned.
What started as a simple repair became a true landscape revival, thanks to a team that saw beyond the fence and delivered a complete solution.
